HAVING THE TIME OF OUR LIVES

This is the first opportunity I have had to have wifi so I can get a blog posted.  We have boondocked a few times, but at most of the campgrounds we do not have it and if they say they do have it it is never strong enough that we can get on, so we were going to boondock tonight but it was cool enough tonight we decided we would like to have some heat.  So I am going to try to get a blog posted.
I really can't explain what a wonderful time we have been having!!  It is really different not having to worry about being on a schedule, which is not a luxury we can EVER remember having.
We travel down the highway and if something looks interesting we make the stop.  Sometimes we have to turn around and go back, but that's what we do cause we can.  There is no reason we have to get home.  As of yesterday we have been on the road 2 weeks.
After we left Yellowstone, we headed northwest through Montana.  Must say it is a beautiful state, but, there is not a whole lot to stop and see at least the route we took.  Our destination was Great Falls, Montana and then we headed north to the Canadian border.  I have no idea why, but I was really apprehensive about going across the border.  Questions were asked, we gave our answers and we were permitted to enter Canada.  (Guess we didn't look suspicious! lol) Since then we have not made or received phone calls.  The only communications we have been able to have is through texting.  Can't wait to get to Alaska so we can use our phones and talk to family & friends.

  Crossing the border into Canada

That first night in Canada we looked in the GPS for a campground but when we got to the destination there was no campground but a convention center and parking lot.  I have never heard of the Calgary Stampede but that is where it turned out to be where the Calgary Stampede is held which was going to be the next weekend.  We talked to the grounds keeper and he said we could stay, so we set up and stayed the night.  Here are few pictures of our set up.  It was hot that evening so we put up a small table outside the camper and watched a movie until the mosquitos chased us back inside.

We celebrated our 44th anniversary on June 29.  We were going to be near Banff & Lake Louise Canada, so we wanted to make sure to go there.  Edgerton travel always advertises about the tours you can go there with them.  It definitely is made for the tourists, but we really enjoyed doing the town.  We saw the big famous Hotel (which at the time of this writing I cannot remember the name of it-oops)  We drove out to the Gondola and took it up to the top of the mountain.  I know 2 people who would not have gone up there (Shelly & Jenny)  It was a beautiful view up there.  From there we went to Lake Louise and had dinner at the Fairmount Chateau Lake Louise.  That was neat.

We saw some wildlife yesterday but today was so neat, because we saw Black bear, Buffalo, Coyote, Mountain sheep.  Here are just a few of the photos I took.

Today we are in Watson Lake, Canada.  This is where back in world war 2 a homesick soldier put a sign up of the name of his home town and pointed it in the direction of his home town.  It caught on and now people from all over the world bring signs with the names of their home towns or just their names & put them up on posts.  They say there are over 60,000 signs.

We have so many things we are going to be doing and we are not even yet to our destination !  Do not know when I will be able to post again, but as soon as I can I will.

Until Next Time

  3. I'm sure you will be past the road to Skagway by the time you read this, but on your way home you should go to Skagway. Eat at the Red Onion Saloon and be sure to take the very educational tour of the upstairs. The White Pass & Yukon Railroad goes up the opposite side of the valley that the road comes down on, but you may want to take the railroad tour anyway. The tour is very well narrated and explains the plight of the Alaskan Gold Rush miners on their way to the Klondike gold.
